I remember all these players , some real well. I think they have all passed on although Hobby hasn’t been gone all that long. Eddie Claxton was my basketball coach when I was a sophomore in high school. I think he was the first of this group to die. Howard Simmons, Kelly Wininger, Leon Harrison and Hobby all stayed in French Lick, I don’t know about the others. Eddie served as an officer in the army and after his discharge he coached a short while in French Lick and then went to Indianapolis where he died. I knew Kelly best, he had a service station across from the lower golf course and some of us used to hang out there quite a bit. Leon lived right across the street from me and after Kelly married he lived in the next house up the street. In later life Leon lost a leg, I believe the cause was Diabetes. Back in those days the ball went back to center court after each point. Whoever controlled the tip had a decisive edge and of course French Lick had big Hobby jumping center.
